Iwas born and raised in a Buddhist home in rural Sri Lanka. My parents trained me in a disciplinary manner under the strict teaching of Buddha. My early home life was very warm and enjoyable. Yet, as a teenager I began to rebel against my parents because they had many problems in their family life.
Finally, when my father left our family, I could not face our community and school. I lost all my hope and tried to commit suicide. But I couldn’t go through with it.
At the same time I heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the first time. A Bible League-trained Christian worker said that I could receive forgiveness of sin. This was a new concept for me. As a Buddhist, I never heard of forgiveness of sin.
This made me to read more about Christ in the Bible and attend the local church. I repented of my sin and received Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I was also baptised. After that my mother also became a Christian. Malina—Project Philip Bible study graduate.
"I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me." (Acts 26:17b-19, NIV) |
Since 2004, anti-conversion legislation has remained under consideration. It would declare Buddhism the state religion, with fines or jail sentences for anyone convicted of assisting in "unethical" conversions.
From 2003, approximately 2,501 attacks were made on Christians due to the debate on anti-conversion laws. These Christians need God's Word to persevere in persecution. To provide Bibles for persecuted Christians, click here.
