SOUTHEAST ASIA: Bible League’s ministry is booming as thousands more Bibles are provided

During the past year, Bible League’s ministry in Southeast Asia has experienced tremendous growth. Many churches in the region are eager for the Bibles and training offered through Bible League’s ministry.

“Our training is so popular that there is now a long list of churches waiting to have our program in their churches,” says a Bible League contact in Southeast Asia. “Our hope is that every member of these churches will be equipped to effectively teach God’s Word and bring more people into fellowship with Christ and His Church.”

In addition to the desire for more training, ministry field workers have been able to share the Bible, in their native languages, with various indigenous people groups.

In Cambodia last year, Bible League-trained Christians ministered to 27 different tribal groups and this year, in Thailand, ministry workers plan to minister to nine unreached people groups. In Malaysia, an increasing population of migrant workers has also created more opportunities for Bible League-trained believers to spread the Good News. By 2010, the Malaysian government estimates that there will be 5 million foreign workers with legal work permits living in Malaysia.

“Southeast Asia is one of the most responsive regions to God’s Word,” says the National Director of Bible League Australia Grahame Smith. “The fields are ripe for harvest and thousands are hungry for Bibles. The transformation that His Word brings to peoples’ lives continues to serve as our inspiration.”

Last year, 738,713 Bibles and New Testaments were shared by Bible League-trained Christians throughout various Southeast Asian countries, 60,109 Bible studies were completed, 164,717 individuals became a part of a local church, and 2,829 churches were established.
