WALK4BIBLES: Providing more than 9,269 Bibles to persecuted Christians
More than 600 people took part in ten WALK4BIBLES events across Australia so far providing more than 9,269 Bibles for persecuted Christians in over 30 countries worldwide.
With sponsorship donations continuing to come in and with several more WALK4BIBLES events planned for this year, even more Bibles will be provided.
WALK4BIBLES has become an even bigger event this year with new community walks being held in Esperance, Nunawading, Werribee, Queenstown, Wyndham, Lawson and Gosford. Events were also held in Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Launceston, and Perth. WALK4BIBLES is still to be held in places like Townsville, Toowoomba and Brisbane.
Bronwyn, of Nunawading Seventh-day Adventist Church reports that their youth group and leaders organised a 7 kilometre walk on 17 May at Cape Schanck on the Mornington Peninsula. It was also the coldest, wettest day in Melbourne for over 31 years.
“It was teeming with rain and really cold. But with the 250 million Christians worldwide who are persecuted for their faith in focus, 19 Nunawading youth and leaders set out, determined to achieve their goal,” she said.
Carolyn, also from Nunawading SDA, reports on the outcome of their event. “The sponsors just keep coming in. To date we have almost doubled our dream of 100 bibles. We have raised $1,233.10. One more week at church and we may hit the $1,400.00 mark!”
The national director of Bible League Australia, Grahame Smith, said that Bibles provided for persecuted Christians will make an incredible difference to their lives.
“These Bibles will change persecuted Christian’s lives as God’s Word strengthens their faith, encourages them to endure and equips them to share the gospel with others,” he said. “Thank you to everyone who took part in walking, sponsoring a walker or volunteering on the day.”
