WALK4BIBLES kicks off in Tassie

AUSTRALIA—Despite the cold, the looming storm clouds and the rain, Christians were determined to WALK4BIBLES on March 29 in the Tasmanian cities of Launceston and Hobart.

Chris, who walked 14 kilometres in Hobart’s WALK4BIBLES, said it was a blessing to pray and walk for persecuted Christians. He realised the cost of walking was incomparable to the suffering of persecuted Christians.

“I was going through a bit of pain in my legs and knees but it’s not really pain; it’s not pain to what other persecuted Christians experience,” he said.

“It’s an additional blessing to pray for the persecuted. For us Christians [who] have the freedom and the finances, we can give our resources to share.”

Pam, who also participated in Hobart’s WALK4BIBLES, said she enjoyed knowing that by walking she was providing Bibles for persecuted Christians.

“I think it’s great,” she said. “One lady, who sponsored me, gave me a Bible for every kilometre I walked. Bibles are something we take for granted. I have four Bibles but some [people] would have none.”

In Launceston, Marieke walked 7 kilometres and used the time to focus her thoughts to remember and pray for persecuted Christians.

“Prayer changes things,” she said. “Sometimes it [the persecution of Christians] can seem a bit removed but on the walk, it’s part of the purpose.

“[WALK4BIBLES] provides an opportunity to do something about it [the persecution of Christians]. I think the Bible is an important thing for everyone to have in their lives.”
