On Good Friday, 70 years ago, a simple prayer that launched Bible League’s ministry. It began with a church elder who prayed that God would spare the life of William Chapman, a businessman in Chicago, USA, and give him a new life dedicated to powerful service in God’s kingdom.

As Chapman recovered, God revealed to him the great need for every home in America to be supplied with a Bible. This was the seed that eventually grew into the ministry now known as Bible League.

The national director of Bible League Australia, Grahame Smith, says over the past 70 years, Bible League and their partners have helped provide more than 730 million Scriptures worldwide.

“Since 1938, more than 80 countries have received Bibles, New Testaments, Scripture portions and basic Bible study materials from Bible League,” he says. “Bible League ministry centres have also been established in more than 40 countries.

“Through Bible League’s evangelistic and discipleship Bible studies, people are “meeting” Jesus. Many are committing their lives to Him and continuing to grow in faith by the power of God’s Word. Christians trained by Bible League are also establishing new churches in areas where there are none.

“Still, hundreds of millions of people remain Bible-less. Through our bold, new goal—Vision 2020 to train 10 million people to reach 100 million people worldwide using God’s Word—we hope to fulfil this need through the much-needed support of our donors.”
