Eastern Europe—Searching for answers
As Kosovo declares its independence from Serbia, unrest throughout Eastern Europe continues. Amidst this environment of turbulence and conflict, Bible League’s work continues—but your help is needed.
National Director of Bible League, Grahame Smith, says that more Bibles are needed to provide people in this former Yugoslavian region with the answers they are searching for.
“From the reports I have read from Bible League in Serbia, many people are living hard lives,” says Grahame. “They are still suffering from war, economic struggles and poverty. Yet, this situation gives Bible League workers in Serbia a chance to bring them hope through God’s Word.
“Bibles are desperately needed to help equip Bible League’s Project Philip evangelists and church planters. More than 85 percent of villages are without any evangelical church in their community. Your prayers are also needed in providing more Bible League church planters to work in difficult regions.
“Please also pray for the Bible League workers in Eastern Europe as many do not have regular jobs and most are very alone in their work because of persecution from religious majorities.”
Despite the difficulties that Bible League workers face, the number of believers are increasing. In 2007, some 2,046 people took part in Bible League’s Project Philip Bible study course in Serbia and 261 people were baptised and became church members. Praise God! The ministry results are quite remarkable for a nation where only 0.14 percent of people are evangelical Christians.
“We are very blessed to know more and more people are meeting Christ in Serbia though our ministry,” says the National Director of Bible League in Serbia. “By faith we can see great things happening in the future. We have a great mission and a great challenge in front of us.”
