India—Number of new believers grows as persecution increases
The number of new believers, who have made a commitment to Christ through Bible League’s ministry, have grown by an incredible 102 percent in the last three years, despite the rise in Christian persecution.
In 2007, some109,256 people were baptised and became church members after completing Bible League’s Project Philip Bible study course.
The National Director for Bible League in India says their nation is on the brink of a great spiritual movement towards Christ.
“The climate is very open to the Gospel,” he says. “Since 1996 the harvest force in India has increased by 53,841 people. This really is a tremendous blessing.”
The blessing of many new Christians is even greater when considering that so many choose to follow Christ despite the likelihood of persecution.
“New believers are often persecuted, some in subtle ways that include being shunned by the community,” he says. “Others are beaten, or driven out of communities by angry crowds. However, the demand for new churches is strong and dedicated Bible League Church Planters established 274 new churches throughout India.”
During December 2007, hundreds of religious radicals destroyed more than 700 Christian homes in India's eastern state of Orissa. Bible League’s ministry was not affected but your prayers for persecuted Christians are encouraged
