Need for Bibles increases as Kenya’s political crisis escalates
Thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes after violence erupted in Kenya following last month’s contested elections.
A large group of people had taken shelter in a church in Eldoret, hoping to escape the violence after their homes had been torched. However, their peaceful haven was destroyed when on 1 January 2008 an angry mob arrived, setting fire to the church and killing tens of people.
“I urge people to pray for Christians in Kenya during this time,” says National Director of Bible League Australia Grahame Smith. “Please pray for God’s protection and strength.”
“I also urge people to send God’s Word to Bible-less people in Kenya. The need for Bibles is already high in this nation and it’s now even greater.
“This country is in crisis and needs the impact of God’s Word. Many people would be feeling fearful, discouraged and grieved. Without God’s Word how will they know of the hope, comfort and assurance that salvation in Christ Jesus brings?”
Mr Smith said that Bible League workers in Kenya are safe and are working around the current disruptions as best they can.
