“We are grateful to Bible League and their faithful partners for publishing the New Testament,” says a Huaylas Quechua-speaking believer in Peru.
“Please thank them for us, tell them that because of their faithfulness we will someday worship God together in heaven!” says a Tephenhuan-speaking believer in Mexico. |
Joy overflows
We can’t help but thank God when we receive these messages of appreciation from those who have received their first copy of God’s Word in their heart language.
In 2007, Bible League has helped make God’s Word available to 20 different language groups—from groups with 3,000 speakers to groups with more than a million speakers; from the high Andean valleys in Peru to the Amazon Jungle areas of Brazil, as well as remote areas in Ghana, Kenya and Southeast Asia.
Altogether 2 Bibles, 12 New Testaments and a number of Scripture portions were published last year through our partnership with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Millions of people are now able to meet Jesus—the Living Word—for the first time through the pages of the Scriptures in their heart language.
Just as God promises that His Word will not return to Him void but will accomplish what He desires (Isaiah 55:11), we now see this promise being fulfilled in many indigenous groups, who are reaping abundant fruits for Christ using the Scriptures that they received.
“Missionary translators in Peru report growing churches in the indigenous groups. In some groups, they are not only reaching out to non-believers in their own tribe but are also seeking to evangelise other tribal groups!” says Bible League’s Director of Minority Language Ministry.
Challenge ahead
“Kushikushun! Let Us Rejoice!”
Some thousand Huaylas Quechua people of Peru and others celebrated the dedication of the Huaylas Quechua
New Testament
(Wycliffe report) |
Among the 6,000 languages in the world, there are still approximately 2,286 languages or 196 million people who don’t have the Scriptures in their heart language—a language that they understand the best.
We thank God for this challenge, which is also an opportunity through which Bible League may partake in God’s ministry in reaching the world for Christ with His Word.
You can be a part of this ministry. Your prayers and gifts will help someone receive their very first copy of God’s Word—the greatest gift for this Christmas—that will transform their lives for eternity.
