Mozambique—Bible message reveals truth of village legend
Bibles are desperately needed to provide more people with the Gospel of truth in Mozambique. At least half the population follow animist practices and ancestral worship—including Christians. Sometimes Christians do not realise the evil that is behind their cultural practices or beliefs. They need God’s Word to show them the truth and release them into the freedom that comes through Christ.
Recently, the Bible League Director of South and East Africa visited Mafufuka, a village in Mozambique. The village had not been reached with the message of Christ until volunteers trained by the Bible League arrived. Several Bible studies had begun and although many people had accepted Christ they still did not completely grasp His resurrection.
“Mafufuka means ‘risen’ in Shangaani—the villagers’ language,” says the Director. “The village is named after an ancient legend that a man died and rose again in that place.
“As I taught from God’s Word, I used Mafufuka as the theme—emphasising that only Jesus has risen from the dead. Their eyes began to open and they understood the legend of their village has no comparison with Jesus. When I said, ‘He rose, went to heaven and is coming again (loko hita!), the Shangaani people spontaneously stood and began to worship.”
God’s Word brings clarity and infallible truth—truth that brings people into a closer and deeper relationship with Christ. Click here to donate Bibles to Africa.
