Kenya—More Bibles needed to counteract rise in deceptive religious groups
Religious groups in Kenya are masquerading as churches in an attempt to gain legal recognition and receive financial benefits from the government.
“The need for Bible-based churches is as great as ever,” says Bible League's associate director of Africa ministry Dr. Mwaya Kitavi. “Many Kenyans are unable to distinguish genuine religious organisations from 'big business' under the guise of evangelism.”
For some people, establishing a church in Kenya is seen as a means of cashing in on free flowing money and ultimately taking advantage of the unsuspecting public.
Despite this deceptive arena, Bible League remains a constant, reliable source of spreading God's much-needed Word throughout Kenya.
“Bible League's ministry in Kenya began more than 20 years ago and continues to flourish,” says Kitavi. “By coming alongside Kenyan churches and equipping their leaders with Scriptures and training, we see first-hand the love of Jesus shining through. This is what Kenya really needs—churches founded on biblical truths and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Jackson Muia, a Christian in the Makueni South region of Kenya, had a dream to plant a church. Following his Bible League training and through the provision of Bibles, Muia was able to see his dream come to fruition. Churches began mushrooming throughout every village in the region. The power of the Gospel has transformed his community.
“People have joined the church in big numbers and left behind their pagan ways of life,” says Muia.
Muia is one of many Kenyans with a passion for the lost and a heart for their people. He is just one of more than 85,000 Kenyans—last year alone—who completed Bible studies through Bible League’s ministry. Christians grounded in God's Word are determined to unravel Kenya's hovering blanket of deception.
