Russia & CIS—Over 363,000 children nurtured by God’s Word
Children are tomorrow’s leaders. But a recent report by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) showed that millions of children in the ex-Soviet bloc are suffering a “catastrophic decline” in access to education. Around 12 million children do not have the chance to study in secondary school, while 2.5 million do not even attend primary school.
Yet, God has not left these children forgotten. With God’s Word placed in places like orphanages, specialised schools, sports team or boarding schools, children who normally do not have the opportunity to visit churches are now reading God’s Word.
Russia—Christmas Bibles for Orphans
In one region in Russia, Bible League held a new project called “Christmas Bibles for Orphans.” About 1,000 orphans—approximately 25 percent of all the children in orphanages in that region—completed a Bible study course and each received a Children’s Bible as a gift!
Moldova—God’s Word reaches athletes
Sochi, a sports instructor who is responsible for the whole region of Moldova, accepted Jesus after he completed Bible League’s Project Philip Bible study. Now, Sochi is bringing God’s Word to other athletes. He engaged each of the region’s sports teams in a Bible study before their training sessions. During this year, Sochi has already successfully introduced the Bible studies in some cities in the region.
Armenia—Problem children transformed
One Church Planter who partners with Bible League started a ministry in two specialised schools for problem children, engaging fifteen children in Bible studies. The children ask Jesus to help them stay away from bad habits like stealing. God’s Word speaks into their lives and now many of these children show a positive change in their behaviour.
Ukraine—Study God’s Word in public school
“I had never seen any of my relatives,” says Vicka, a 16 year old who grew up in an orphanage. “I was transferred to a boarding school and there they had Bible study lessons. I learned that I have a Heavenly Father who always cares for me.” After much prayer by those in the group, Vicka was visited by his sister who eventually was able to find him. “I am grateful to Jesus for answering my prayers! My hope is in Jesus!”
Despite much difficulty, God has opened opportunities to introduce Christian ethics as a formal subject in selected public schools in Western Ukraine. Now, thousands of Ukraine students are learning about Jesus through the Christian ethics textbooks produced by Bible League.
363, 339 Children's Bibles placed last year
In 2006, God has amazingly opened opportunity for Bible League to place a total of 363,339 Children’s Bibles in the region of Russia & CIS.
When the seed of God’s Word planted in the hearts of these children, it will make them wise for salvation and keep their way pure as they live a righteous life. By placing God’s Word into the hands of these children—tomorrow’s leaders—we are also witnessing precious lives being transformed for eternity.
