Peru—Bible League booklets comfort earthquake survivors
Reported as the strongest earthquake in Peru in more than 30 years, the recent quake in mid-August left at least 500 people dead and 80,000 homeless. Working alongside those who bring physical relief, Bible League-trained workers are bringing God’s hope and comfort to the disaster zone through His Word.
“We visited the disaster zone and we were at a loss for words,” says Bible League’s National Director for Peru.
In response to this, Bible League workers in Peru produced a Scripture-filled booklet that ministers to those traumatised by the quake.
Some 30,000 copies of “The Word that Reconstructs Lives,” based on the reconstruction of the walls of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 3-7), were printed and are being shared by Bible League partner churches and other ministries in the area of the earthquake.
Bible League came to Peru in 2006 at the request of Peruvian churches that had seen the results of evangelistic and discipleship programs in Ecuador and Colombia.
“We thank God for leading us to reach over 8,000 people in our first year and we were able to place 227,142 Scriptures with Peruvians,” says Bible League’s Ministry Director for Latin America.
By coming alongside local Peruvian churches, Bible League is sustaining evangelisation and discipleship and we continue to witness God transforming lives through His Word.
