Southeast Asia—Persecution: real and immediate

“Although we have freedom here in the west, the reality remains that the decision to follow Christ in specific areas of the world is sometimes punishable by death. Still, young and vibrant churches are emerging and God’s Word continues to reach people who face restricted religious freedoms."

Persecution of Christians is a harsh reality that ignites the strength of persecuted Christians as well as Bible League workers around the world.

In recent weeks, in one extremely restricted Southeast Asian region, where Christianity is considered “the number one enemy of the state,” more than ten Christians were murdered.

Also, thirteen leaders and pastors have been imprisoned and three of these are Bible League’s Project Philip trainers.

According to Christian Solidarity Worldwide, Christians in this region must receive government approval to associate with foreign religious organisations. Many Christians are forced to deny their faith or risk losing their homes and land. Yet, there is no sense of retreat.

God’s Word is breaking through
Despite the fact that ministry fronts are challenged daily with regard to religious freedom, God’s Word is powerfully breaking through.

In 2006 alone, Bible League placed millions of Scriptures with persecuted Christians and seekers in over 60 countries. Already this year, 23, 882 Aussie Christians and 540 churches (churches and individuals can still join until August 2008) are uniting again through the Bibles for the Persecuted Program to pray and to place Bibles with persecuted Christians.

Did you know?

The Power of God’s Word
By providing Scriptures and training worldwide, we are sending God’s light to those who are living in darkness. With this light, persecuted Christians are comforted, strengthened and equipped to bring others—prepared by the Holy Spirit—into fellowship with Christ and His Church.
