Muslim World —Seeker asks for Bible during Ramadan
As Muslims enter the time of Ramadan (13 Sept – 12 Oct 2007), many will be seeking truth.
During Ramadan, Muslims are obligated to fast to experience hunger, to suppress their desires, to practise long night prayers to Allah, so as to increase their spiritual piety. They believe that doing good works and praying more will bring a greater reward during this month.
But it is also during this particular time that many seekers convert to Christianity.
Seek and find
The Holy Spirit powerfully uses the Bible to bring seekers to Jesus. There are repeated reports that during Ramadan, many Muslims convert to Christianity because they have encounters with Jesus, often after reading the New Testament. Some even dream about a “Man in white”—Jesus Christ—who reveals Himself and calls the dreamer to Himself. This arouses in their hearts the desire to read more about Jesus.
Last year, a Muslim woman came to Bible League’s office in Senegal during Ramadan to ask for a Bible. Bible League workers engaged her in Bible studies and gave her a Bible. She hid it under her Burka (traditional Muslim dress).
“It is unimaginable to see a veiled Muslim woman walk 3 kilometres to look for a Bible!” exclaims Bible League’s National Director in Senegal.
Bibles placed with Muslim seekers
Last year alone, Bible League placed 856, 578 Scriptures with seekers and persecuted Christians in the Muslim regions in Central Asia and the Middle East. There were also 45,670 people who graduated from a Bible League Project Philip Bible study and 13,480 new believers baptised.
These encouraging results all start from prayer. Will you join us to pray for Christians and seekers during Ramadan? Also, will you pray for Bible League’s workers around the world, who will reach out to Muslims using God’s Word?
