Hearts inspired—Understanding the persecuted
Christian persecution became a reality for Hinton Baptist Church when Bibles and passports were stolen as part of Bible League’s Bibles for the Persecuted church program.
Young people and their families were preparing for a camp bonfire when one of the church members, a retired air force officer, acted as border security control, collecting the “illegal” Bibles and the specially made passports. The aim of the program was to encourage people to think more about the persecution Christians face for their faith in Christ.
“Mainly the adults were upset because they lost their passports and Bibles,” says Maureen Hallett, who organised the event. “We were talking about (Christian) people being persecuted and how they put up with being persecuted and suffering for Christ.”
The dedicated group raised funds to place 41 Bibles with persecuted Christians around the world.
“I like to help them (the persecuted),” says Mrs Hallett. “I can’t go myself but I can make a way so that Bibles can be sent.”
Around the world today over 200 million Christians experience persecution.
