Day 3 - Sri Lanka
Nothing is impossible with God
Located off the south-east coast of India, Sri Lanka has a complex blend of Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians, as well as about 18 different political parties. Considered a developing nation, poverty and income inequality affect millions of people.
The country has only recently surfaced from a horrific 26-year civil war which greatly damaged the country’s economy and resulted in more than 60,000 people killed.
However, throughout the civil war Bible League witnessed God working in miraculous ways. Through Bible League-trained workers, Scripture materials and Bibles reached Sri Lankans in war-torn areas despite travel often being hindered by roadblocks, checkpoints and curfews.
“God provided the materials in the needed moments,” the director said. “On multiple occasions, friends of Bible League who were planning to travel north for business or family purposes took backpacks of Bibles and delivered them. What a blessing!”
Bible League also found that people who lived in war affected regions were most responsive to the Gospel.
“Desperate lives [were] changed by the Gospel, right in the midst of civil war,” the director said. “In fact, Jaffna is one of the most fruitful districts of Bible League ministry in Sri Lanka, which again reminds us that nothing is impossible with God.”
Please continue to pray for Bible League’s work in Sri Lanka as the country tries to move forward after the civil war.
