PRESTIGIOUS STATE AWARD FOR BIBLE LEAGUE
The Australian arm of Bible League International has picked up a prestigious State Fundraising Institute of Australia award for their recent “Emergency Bibles for Japan” campaign.
This is the first-ever fundraising award for Bible League!
The campaign was named ‘Best Use of Electronic Media' (Division A) at the annual awards ceremony held at the Darlington Centre in Sydney.
The award recognised the excellence of ‘Emergency Bibles for Japan’, which raised money to provide Bibles to meet the spiritual needs of the Japanese people following the magnitude 9 earthquake that hit the country’s North East in March this year.
Specifically, traditional and Manga (comic) Bibles were requested.
More than 20,000 people died in the natural disaster and another 100,000 were left homeless.
Bible League sprang into action, utlising web, SMS, email, social media (Facebook and Twitter) and direct phone contact to make Australians aware of the plight of the Japanese.
The campaign was developed and implemented over an intensive 24 hour period, and was unique in that it was raising funds to cater to the spiritual rather than physical needs of the Japanese people.
The target of $50,000 was reached within 72 hours. Overall target income was in fact exceeded by 192%!
This is a remarkable fact considering 70% of Bible League supporters are of retirement age!
The campaign has now been passed on to the Fundraising Institute’s National body, where it is in the running for an Australia-wide award, to be decided on the Gold Coast in March 2012.
