“I’ve kept wearing the WALK4BIBLES badge on my bag after the walk. One day, a shop keeper asked me about it, so I introduced WALK4BIBLES to him. He was deeply touched by the great need in China. He eventually donated $10 to support Christians there!” — a walker in Sydney.

“There was not much response when I first announced the event at our church. Later, a lady who was visiting at that time came up to me. She put $200 into my hands and said it was for WALK4BIBLES. I was stunned and I felt it was God’s confirmation that I am doing the right thing. So I persisted in asking for sponsors. God continued to open more opportunities and I went on. I was able to send in about $800! I was hooked! It wasn’t that hard. I came to the conclusion that if we don’t ask, we don’t receive!” — a walker in Perth.

"I walked because as I thought about it, everyday we walk from place to place but not everywhere we go has significance," says Frank from Caroline Springs, VIC, who brought a group of 15 friends. "In the 7 kilometres that we walked, every step was significant in somebody’s life," he says. “It’s an opportunity that I don’t think I could forgive myself for not taking part in,” says Frank, “because it’s so easy. I don’t have to get on a plane; I don’t have to learn another language; I don’t have to walk the streets of China but by doing something like this, I can support a person who can do that, who had the time, who has the calling of God. I can partner with them in bringing the Bibles into somebody else’s hands. It’s beautiful.”

WALK4BIBLES 2006 - PERTH

WALK4BIBLES Perth walkathon was held around the Swan River in the city of Perth.

It was an enjoyable day with excellent walking weather and a total of 184 people walking, coming from all over Perth as families, individuals, youth groups, church groups, friends or walking buddies. They had two tracks along the river, 7km track or 14 km route. By all reports the Perth WALK4BILBLES was a very enjoyable day.

Bible League thanks the many people who were willing to walk or those who help organised the event - congratulations and thanks to Jan Peletier and his team of volunteers in Perth for their contribution towards a successful day.

WALK4BIBLES 2006 - SYDNEY

W4B06SydOn Saturday 6th May 2006, WALK4BIBLES Sydney was held for the second time. The event was held again along the scenic walkways of Sydney Olympic Park.

We praise God that he blessed the day again with sunny weather. People from all over Sydney came as families, individuals, youth groups, church groups, friends or walking buddies. This year we had two walking opportunities along the Parramatta River: the 7km track or the 14 km route for the very enthusiastic and the fit. There was also free coffee/tea and cake offered for participants to enjoy around tables on the lawn. We did have a wonderful day.

Bible League thanks the many people who were willing to walk or sponsor someone to provide Bibles for Africa. Each of you has shown a spirit of generosity. We appreciate the help from our sponsors and volunteers for their contribution towards a successful day.

WALK4BIBLES 2006- HOBART

W4B06HobartOn Saturday 20th May 2006, WALK4BIBLES Hobart was held along the beautiful shores of the Derwent River.

Although the cold weather and the rain held off for an enjoyable walk for 67 participants, they came with such enthusiasm— young and not so young, even babies in prams and the family puppies came along for the day. The start and finish line was at the Christian Reformed Church of Hobart, where walkers could enjoy a fresh cup of coffee or tea when they returned and shared their walk experience out of the cold. Thank you to the CRC of Hobart for the use of the premises and those who helped out on the registration desk and serving. We look forward to WALK4BIBLES in Hobart next year. Hopefully with warmer weather.

WALK4BIBLES 2006 - BRISBANE

On Saturday 2w4b06 Brisbane7th May 2006, WALK4BIBLES Brisbane walkers enjoyed the walk along the River and over the bridges in Brisbane. After many months of planning we organised the first WALK4BIBLES event in Brisbane at South Bank. Much thought was put into the location of the walk and who would be the local people to organise it. When the time arrived—we had a perfect day. The sun was shining, the temperature was fine and the people were ready.

All up we had 271 people came to walk. Everyone enjoyed themselves—from the walkers to the volunteers and those who registered the walkers. It was a great and successful day. Several people reported that they had obtained good sponsors. Enthusiasm for next year’s event is high and ambitious. --WALK4BIBLES Volunteer Coordinator
