Desperate for God’s Word in Africa

We often experience drought in Australia. But Africans experience another kind of drought—a drought of Bibles—grips Africa.

More than 200 million Christians in Africa are waiting for their own Bible.

All over Africa—in Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Uganda and Ethiopia—the hunger for God’s Word is great.

“I mobilised church members to reach out to their friends and neighbours with the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” says Sipelile, a Bible League-trained church planter in Zimbabwe. The war-like conditions of poverty, violence and sky-rocketing inflation compel people to seek divine intervention.

Christians who have Bibles, have hope. They are reaching out to those who don’t.

“The response was excellent. Because of the influx of new converts, I quickly trained four people to become cell group leaders,” says Sipelile . “The use of Bible study guides from Bible League made it easy. I have weekly meetings with the leaders so that we can help each other in taking care of our members. My pastor came to see what the Lord was doing and he could not hide his ecstasy,” she says.

“Bible League’s study materials have become a primary resource for many churches’ discipleship programs,” the national director in Uganda reports. “They also help provide leadership skills for pastors in rural areas. Thanks to Bible League, Christians are being spiritually fed. Our major challenge is that there are never enough Bibles. We pray for more Bibles in local languages.”
